Flowers and Chocolates

It's been quiet here on my blog site for a while, I have been sick and resting so I can get better. Last Friday there was a surprise delivered to my door from the new owner of my painting, she wanted me to know she has been enjoying The Free Bird on her wall.
The postman also dropped off a parcel that day, chocolates from an old friend, all the way from Finland. Chocolates with MY name on it! Two of my favorite things in one day, I don't know what to do with myself except to hurry up and be all well again!!

Brightness

There has been a few sunny days in a row... Yay! I have taken advantage and thoroughly enjoyed them by heading out and embracing the cold. Tonight we decided to visit a small shopping district nearby that's been decorated with Christmas lights. We wandered around taking pictures for almost an hour but alas there's only one in the collection that caught my eye:
A tree covered with white lights on the street corner, shining its quiet peacefulness.
I'd like to take this moment to share some good news. Two of my paintings have sold, The Free Bird and Fish Painting, I am delighted!

About Chinatown

It's been raining long and hard for weeks now. Last Friday there was a sunny break so I managed to head out for a bit and enjoyed the mild weather. It's now back to being wet and grey for the rest of the week. To cheer myself up, I went over to my stash of sunny days and decided to share with you on this cold cold Monday some pictures from Chinatown taken a month ago.

It was the perfect Fall weather with blue skies and gorgeous lighting. A view up the street from where we parked.
Two turtles sunning themselves surrounded by curious koi greeted the visitors.
A composition of abstract forms from the garden.
Scenes taken from the parking lot at 5 stories high.

The Hairy Episode

To be honest I chuckled when this idea came to mind! It came to me while I was cooking couple of weeks ago, seems all ideas come to light when I'm not sketching... long story short, the first draft was too crowded but my mind eventually sorted it out while I was working on other paintings.

Note to self: sometimes it's good to invest in some new brushes, they do wonders with fine details!Yet another different treatment for the sides, this time a brightly colored one to contrast with the darker front. Click here to see all works for the show. Painting size is 4" x 3".

My First Art Show

Some pictures from The Art Show and Sale last Saturday which is located at a private residence in Burnaby, British Columbia.
The Art Show consisted of 3 potters and 1 painter, the painter being me. :) Potters are Amy Chang, Jessie Tse and Mary Baker. Mary is currently having a show at the Burnaby Arts Council Deer Lake Gallery, click here to find out more.
I made the extra effort to design labels for each piece indicating title, artist name, size, materials used and price.
I managed to squeeze in one last painting for the show, making the total number of submissions to be six, I will be posting this sixth painting during the week!
One last shot out the window before visitors showed up. Quite a few laughed at my paintings and expressed great joy.

All Together Now

Hello Sunday! It's bright and sunny today. The Art Show is next Saturday, I thought I'd put all my paintings up on my notice board to see how they look. I covered an old notice board with leftover fabric and use it to hang my paintings and picture cards collected from local galleries for inspiration. Here you can see 2 paintings I completed in Spring this year, Spring Flowers and Fish Painting, click on their names to read more. This side view below shows some pottery pieces I have collected over the years. The butterfly on the pillow form is made by Amy Chang who will also be showing and selling her pottery at the Art Show. The small blue dish I decided to hang on the wall for that pretty splash of color.

I Struck Gold

Goodbye weekend... I love you! XOXOXO... Hope to see you soon. :)

It has been raining raining raining but along came Saturday with some sun at last. Yay! So out we go again to Barnet Marine Park. See pictures from our last visit here and here. Once again, we were welcomed with gorgeous blue skies under the warm sun, making this another pleasant trip.
We were surrounded with trees full of yellowing leaves. I honestly think they look like little pieces of gold foil fluttering in the autumn breeze.
I found a single leaf floating with the current, it circled and circled. The journey of the yellow heart... who knows what next weekend will bring?

Autumn Shadows

It's actually raining and gloomy right now, forecast says it'll stay this way well into next week. Oh how I long for sunshine... With this in mind I head into my stash of sunny pictures from last weekend... Ahhh, our visit to the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Chinese Garden located in Vancouver Chinatown. The Autumn afternoon rays had cast these long long shadows all over the garden. That's my shadow in the picture below.

Nice to Meat You

Is the title I gave to this painting. The idea came to me a few days ago while I was falling asleep. I wanted to paint something humorous for the show coming up in November. Yikes! That's less than 3 weeks away and this is my first completed piece.Size is 4" x 3" and 1.5" deep. I decided to paint the sides a simple pattern but of a darker tone to make the painting stand out. Okay, now I'm off to do some more painting.

Fall near Our Place & Thank You

It's Thanksgiving long weekend here in Canada. We decided to head out and enjoy the gorgeous fall weather today. Just a few blocks down the street I noticed the trees are changing into this nice red color, here's some pictures I took of them today.

I also would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who visit my site. I really appreciate your taking the time to comment, your kind words mean the world to me.
