Untitled

16" x 20" Not sure what to call this painting. Any ideas? I saw the backdrop of a children's ballet performance in a movie. I think the kids painted it. The colors were so vibrant, it looked like torn pieces of paper except the painting was huge. I started sketching out my own shapes for an idea on friendship, eventually working into these loops for leaves... Lollipop Plants? Mingle comes to mind...The work in progress.
The round shapes reminded me of A Flower Painting.

Burnaby Lake

Hello, how do you do? I'm Mr Wood Duck. I live in Burnaby Lake Regional Park with my friends. Let me introduce you to them. There's Mrs Mallard who is being ever so protective of her ducklings.
The Canada Goose family hurrying towards the feeding frenzy at the other end of the lake.
Some lovely water iris, lovely I must say.

Birds on Fiery Tree

I haven't painted in 3 weeks, I miss it so I talked myself into it. You must focus young Jedi. I have an 8" x 24" cradled panel since December, I've been thinking what would look good on it. While flipping through a decorating magazine, a tree idea popped up. I quickly sketched it, reworked the shape, colors and added the birds. Here's the finale.
I think it'd brighten up a dimly lit corner, don't you?
Let's see my progress...
I like this side, one branch completes itself around the corner. The 'snowdrops' adds a final touch.

Annual Garden

Hello Victoria Day long weekend! I look forward to this particular May weekend as this means flowers on our balcony. This usually involves a good clean up of our balcony, then a trip to the local garden store. I did this yesterday by walking to the Maple Leaf Garden Centre, 30 minutes away. I took some time at the store deciding on the plants and colors. I'm a beginner gardener, it's my third year. I like to try different plants so we can enjoy a different annual garden.

I got marigolds, haven't tried them before. I was happy with a pink geranium 2 years ago so I got a red one.Petunias are new for me. I can't resist this hot pink color. Yes, it's really this striking color so I snapped them up!
There are other plants in the 2 pots but nothing much to see now. I'll post more pictures as they grow along. :)

Burnaby Walk

Earlier in the year, my husband and I decided more walking would be good for us. We aim to go out during the weekend, anywhere, preferably somewhere different hoping to see different things. During the week we picked up a brochure about the different walking trails in Burnaby, about 20 minutes drive from home. We used to live in North Burnaby for 10 years, it was good to be back. We chose 2 trails that took a total of 6 Km in 1.5 hours.

At first it seemed like there wasn't much to see, then we saw the beauty that surrounds us. The little pink flowers on plants that grows out of a fallen tree trunk...
White starlike jewels hiding under the leaves...
What appears to be bluebells along the path.
Does anyone know the names of these beauties?

Building Reflections

Yesterday we went to the Epic Vancouver Sun Sustainable Living Expo at the new Vancouver Convention Centre. Yep, new... just opened last month! Click on the links to find out more about the event and venue.

We decided to walk around after the show to take pictures of the surrounding downtown buildings. I've always liked the glass reflections so I took lots, here's some that worked out. The first one is my favorite, I like the colors and the composition. How about you?

Happy Happy Day

There was sunshine today after a week long of rain and grey so we took advantage of it and went out walking... and saw these flower beds filled with tulips... just thought I'd share them with you! And to all the mothers out there: Happy Mother's Day!

Hallway View

My hallway view from the studio: My Inuit Angel and Impressionist Pair. Click on the names to read more about my paintings.

I decided to keep the colors on the canvas edge simple for a contemporary look. I'm pleasantly surprised how well the two different styles work together. Impressionist Pair is my current favorite. :)

Impressionist Pair

Hello Friday! I just finished these paintings moments ago! The idea came to me while browsing through books about Canada's own Group of Seven and studying the brushstrokes in their paintings. The colors required some work as I had originally wanted yellow skies. Then a picture in a book had the color palette I had in mind, problem solved! I think I'll hang them with My Inuit Angel. Each painting is 10" x 8".
