The store in Chinatown was small, dark and cold even during the hot summer months. It was however a frequent visit until it closed down some years ago. This pair of teacups was my last purchase there, on its face one of the most detailed hand painting on porcelain I ever saw. Fine black outlines filled with delightful colors, the theme of flowers and birds a classic Chinese design.
The elderly couple that volunteered at the store were their previous owners, lightly used from their younger days in Hong Kong, they brought it to Canada and decided to sell it. The cups now reside in our bedroom along with some of my paintings, one of the few items I see before I go to bed and when I wake up.
