Making Sunday: Houseplant Table Runner

A piece of furniture that hosted some
houseplants demanded a new runner to
protect its delicate surface. Some fabric
scraps came to the rescue again, I always
keep the odds and ends, they are so
practical, check out this and this post!

A simple design came to mind, then
colors were chosen and quickly pieced
together with the sewing machine. It was
not easy to line the squares up so a
lively pattern was added in the middle
to break up the lines and add visual
interest. Not bad for a fairly quick project,
it turned out better than I envisioned,
below some pictures with the last one
showing some succulents sunning
themselves by the window.

Have a wonderful week!

Pink and White

An evening walk in the neighborhood was
the activity after a quick dinner, the egg
noodles, snapper and salad was rather filling.
At the end of the street, a sharp turn
discovered some blossoming daisies,
last time I checked they were still
in buds. Delighted the camera took
not one but a few shots, this was the
best one of the lot. Continuing down the
same path, some pink flowers, a
pleasing color the whole tree was covered
with them, very similar to the dogwood
but not the same, what is it? Please help!!

The Balcony Gang

The balcony gang of plants beckoned a
moment of my attention today. The long
awaited flowers of the fuchsia triphylla
were fully formed but not yet in bloom,
it only took more than six weeks!! This
really has my patience trying. The
pansies, on the other hand, non-stop
flowering since the day I got them,
not a bad bargain at $3.99 for six.

At the Dock

A brief inspection at the dock revealed
a rusty panel with alphabet cutouts.
The sun was so bright the colors
of the graphic shapes appeared
faded. Thank goodness for muted
puffs of clouds on the very blue
sky, there was not one but two
more yellow cranes that embellished
the azure. Some mysterious gathering
of foam on the water that gradually float
by along with the gentle waves. It was
nice to be out and about, the temperature
just right, let's do this often before
summer is over. Have an awesome week!

Observations

Observations on the longest day
of the year June 21st found me
chasing shadows on the balcony,
looks like the pansies are flourishing.
The light brought out the sheen on
the leaves of the purple heart
setcreasea. Dancing rays on the teal
colored wall, not one but two of
them, a slight difference I like
them both. It was so bright even
the indoor succulent cast its contour
on the kitchen cabinet. The last
picture a soft sunset at the end of
the day, gentle peach toned clouds
positioned themselves against the
fading blue dusk. What a glorious
day, there was still light at 9 PM!

Little Finds

Ending this week's posts with
little finds. Three prickly chestnuts,
young and small, they were not as
rough as they appeared. A moth
laid still on the carpet, the pattern
on its wings quite pretty. Two
little finds shared today, one
indoors the other outdoors...
May you discover little finds too!
Have a lovely weekend!

Hen and Chicks

Hen and chicks or sempervivum as
the tag suggested, a little pot of
four varieties I tried out this year.
At first there was more dirt, now
they pretty much filled up the
pot! The big purple one has
developed a nice reddish glow
from all that afternoon sun,
so far they seemed quite happy.

A Dinner to Celebrate

Last week a dinner to celebrate the
completion of a project. Lamb
shanks, carrots, yellow peppers,
and shallots intermingled with salt
black pepper, oregano, lime and
extra virgin olive oil as they all
baked in a covered casserole for
two and a half hours. The smell
drove me nuts, it was a good thing
David came home otherwise there
will be some explaining for the
mysterious disappearance of some food.

The final touch, tzatziki yogurt with
garlic and dill, along with salad
ingredients fresh tomatoes, persian
cucumbers and fresh dill, of course we
had to finish it off with sangak bread.
It has been a while since such
a grand meal was made and yes
we savored every bite of it.

Today the start of a new day.
Have a great week!

At Zulu Records

At Zulu Records time seemed to
be at a standstill, the decor of a
vintage era, teal carpet complemented
wood furnishings. In the corner an
arcade machine waited silently,
there was even a spiral staircase
that took you to the second level.
I like the tiles but my favorite is
the red crate with round wheels.

Lots of 99 cent LPs to choose from,
a couple was very engrossed flipping
through every album conversing as to
whether "it" was part of their collection.
A vinyl cover proudly stated STEREO.

There was also a huge selection of
movies, I sometimes browsed and
starred to see if a title popped out.
Last time a staff pick introduced
it earned largely mediocre reviews
but we enjoyed it, the second
time around was even better.

Sweet Pea Sweet Discovery

On the way to the bus stop, a
patch of flowering vine caught
my eye, I had forgotten the city
always planted the sweet pea in
this area every year. Oh their
lovely scent caught up to my
nose as the breeze blew by,
causing their delicate petals
to flutter ever so slightly.
I like their lavender shades,
but my favorite are the rose
colored ones, so beautiful!

Making Wednesday: Project On the Go

Project on the go, scrap pieces
of fabric laid out on the couch,
picking only the colors she likes.
What is Novi up to?

Hats Off Day on Saturday!

Hats Off Day in Burnaby, we try
to make the event every year, our
main attraction is the old cars, some
nice ones this year. I like the purple
flames on the teal truck, a lot of
good looking trucks my favorite
is the yellow one! Some cool
paint jobs, love the flames, they
didn't even forget the engine's
interiors, the fine graphic lines
are a rarity these days. A great
outdoors event, fun for the whole
family, even Elvis came to town!
Nice to see the sun too!

Deadheading

Deadheading, a light chore this Saturday
morning, sad to see the pretty colors
laid out on the ground before one's
eyes. Pictured below the vibrant
culprits that gave me an excuse to be
out in this mild weather as the warm
sun shone on my skin, light breeze
brushed through my hair, fingers
grazed past delicate petals.

Making Thursday: Sewing Machine Cover

The sewing machine cover created last
week was made entirely out of scraps
and oddly shaped remnants, when pieced
together it resembled a small blanket.
It was then folded in half and sewn
from the inside but not all the way.
Part of the bottom was left flared
open to accommodate the electrical
chord, a good little trick I discovered!

The pillow form was created to be
used as a support for the base of the
machine, its filling an old towel, four layers
to be exact. I like how the bright spiral
pattern peeked out from underneath.

The last photo, my sewing machine
with its new cover in the studio, it
turned out better than I thought!
