Those Dark Looming Clouds

It's been great to see blue skies and be in the
sun when I'm out and about, but that isn't always
the case... Last week, on one of the nights, the
skies began to flicker with lightning, then thunder
followed. We seldom get stormy weather like that
here in Vancouver. Sure we get the rain, but when
the wind picked up that night... it was a bit scary.

And on some days... Mother Nature would surprise
me a little with those dark and looming clouds
that seem to pop up every now and then when I
don't have an umbrella with me. Walk faster Novi!

Look Up to the Sky!

The weather has been quite nice lately
I've been making every little excuse to head
out and stay out. Everywhere I go there are
flowers popping their heads out of the ground,
decorating the grass and dirt with little bits
of colors here and there. Truth is, every now
and then, I have to remind myself to look up to
the sky... Shared below sunny blues captured
on two different days, flowering branches
and sprouting ones too. Have a great week!

The Trail of Spring Bulbs

A walk to the general store to accomplish a rather
urgent task led me to the trail of spring bulbs.
The sight of the blooms was unexpected, they
were located on a street I seldom frequent.

Despite the rush, it was a single yellow tulip
highlighted by a tiny stream of sunlight, that
made me pause a little... to stop just for one
brief moment to look around a little... And
notice some of the small and lovely surprises
that we sometimes miss if we're in too much
of a hurry to go who knows where...

... And if we were to just take one split second
to observe... they would be right in front of us,
waiting to delight, like the trio of narcissi...

... And these orange tulips, a double-flowered
variety that reminded me of peonies...

... And more yellow tulips, pretty sure the yellow
ones are my favorite at this very moment.

The Hyacinths by City Hall

A quick stop at the parking lot by City Hall led
me towards the colorful patch of flowering bulbs. It
wasn't until I knelt down to get a closer look and a
closer shot of the petals did I notice their sweet scent.

The hyacinth blooms filled the plot in its entirety,
there were white ones, pale violets, pink fuchsia
and deep violets. They seemed overly crowded at
first glance but careful observation revealed they
were spaced evenly apart. It must be quite an
operation for the gardeners in the Fall, but Oh!...

The reward of their alluring fragrance in the Spring!

The Breeze this Sunny Sunny Afternoon

The breeze on this sunny sunny afternoon
was the reason that drew my camera out. It
also caused the newly sprouted leaves on
the branches to flutter, and flutter they did!

With the light twinkling and sparkling through
ever so slightly as the gentle wind picked up
and slowed down, I stayed for a while and
watched the little leaves danced about
in the sun. They were so very pretty!

Continuing on my walk, the star shaped purple
flowers was something I've never noticed before,
a delightful discovery I just about missed. A
low lying bush situated close to the sidewalk,
I am fascinated by its shape. Now I wonder...

Oh mysterious bloom, what is your name?

(I did some research! The name of the flower is
spring star or spring starflower, Ipheion uniflorum.)

The wind picked up on the way home, so windy
it was hard to get a still of the flowering branches.
They sure were moving about quite a bit, but
this one turned out okay.

This weekend is a long weekend.
Happy Easter! Have a great weekend!
